The Big Picture of Kawah Ijen – and the miners- by night

Olivier Grunewald traveled to Indonesia, in the crater of the Kawah Ijen volcano where miners labor in hellish conditions to retrieve the sulfur. What you see in this picture is a flow of liquid sulfur which has caught fire and burns with an eerie blue flame, lit by moonlight. Incredible work. Go, take a look at the rest of the pictures. They are beautiful, but let’s not forget that no person should work in these hazardous conditions.

A “Ghost Forest” in the Trafalgar Square.

Trafalgar Square. The “Ghost Forest” as it is called is the vision of British artist Angela Palmer. The concept is to present a series of rainforest tree stumps as a ‘ghost forest’ – using the negative space created by the missing trunks as a metaphor for climate change, the absence representing the removal of the world’s ‘lungs’ through continued deforestation.
